Everybody in the world had a bad start of the year 2020 due to the pandemic virus. So how do we stay safe during COVID-19?
Starting from China, the virus started in the late 2019 before it became worse. In early 2020, the virus starts to spread around the world, starting from Asia to Europe and the world.
With the virus still around, is hard to return to normal life, in fact people are beginning to start a new norm of life. Therefore, what steps can a person take right now to prevent the infection?
Staying Safe At Home
WHO claims the virus spreads through respiratory droplets. During daily activities, people should:
- Clean the hands regularly with an alcohol-based sanitizer, or wash them with soap and water. WHO advise that sanitizer should contain “at least 60% alcohol” and that people should wash their hands for at least 20 seconds.
- Clean and disinfect every inch of the surfaces in the house. For example, the living room tables, kitchen seats and work desks.
- Avoid crowded areas when going out. As for people above 60 years old, kids and people with health problems are not advise to going out.
- Avoid close contact with people who have flu-like symptoms, such as coughing and sneezing.
- Check the doctors if you feel any symptoms. If yes, get immediate attention!
It is also advisable not to touch the mouth, nose, or eyes when going out and about, before having a chance to wash and sanitize the hands.
Staying Safe In Work or School
Work and school environments may seem as a crowded place but some simple measures can help prevent infection. WHO recommends the most important precautionary steps to take before going into the office or classrooms:
- Wear a mask before going to school or workplace
- Clean & disinfect work place and objects in continual use. For example, work table, phones and computer keyboards.
- Always remind to wash hands with soap and sanitize using hand sanitizer.
Stay Safe while Travelling
Although Covid-19 have a major impact in tourism, people are still travelling around the world. While planning to travel, all of the same basic steps advised by WHO still apply. That includes:
- Wear a mask before going out
- cleaning and sanitize hands on a regular basis
- Maintain social distancing at least 1 meter
- Follow COVID-19-specific travel advisories by the government
Although vaccines around the world are currently racing in time to cure the pandemic, we must always be prepared for what is next to come. As long as the virus is still around, it is recommended to know how to stay safe and protect your loved ones during Covid-19.
